Reality Creation: An exercise for clarifying - and putting into motion - what you truly want in your life.

This is an exercise that I learned several years back (I think it was a live webinar I atttended), but for the life of me, I can’t recall the exact sourcepoint. In an attempt to give credit where its due, I spent a bit of time scouring the internet (and my saved emails folder) and though I didn’t identify who or where I learned this technique from, I did find different variations of the activity I’ve outlined below. I will say that this process was a game-changer for me and over the years I’ve used it, I have tailored the process to what best worked for me. This technique is something I’ve also shared with many of my clients and customers and I felt inspired today to share it with you. So, let’s get started. All you need is a piece of paper (copy paper is fine or a large journal page works too), a pen/pencil, and about 15-30 minutes.

Take a sheet of paper and designate three columns. Write this heading (or something similar that resonnates and makes sense to you) above the first column: How do I want to feel? What energies, ie emotions do I want to experience in my mind/body/spirit? Above the second column, write: What activities/tasks/actions/goals can I put into motion to help bring about the feelings I want to feel/experience? Finally, write at the top of the third column: How can I share/give back/pay it forward?

The guts of this activity are the next part. The first column is really important, and sets the tone for the other two columns, and can also help you with aligning with your true needs and desires. You can see the first column as a springboard and the second and third columns as real-world actions that will help in manifesting a life where you’re truly getting what you want. Some people like to just jot down every feeling that comes to mind, and then perhaps prioritize, reorder or cull depending on what resonnates. Some people like to brainstorm and then hone their first column entries down to three or five emotions. Do what feels good and right, ususally simpler is better.

Column 1: How do I want to feel? What energies, ie emotions do I want to experience in my mind/body/spirit?
As the answers in the first column in this exercise do indeed determine what you will write into the remaining two columns, it is important to focus on the correct information. Understand the query that is written above the first column. Instead of saying, “I want a new car” (which is not a feeling), you might write, “Free,” “Safe,” or “Adventurous.” If you desire to lose extra body weight, consider words like “Balanced,” “Energetic,” or “Healthy.” If you’re struggling with coming up with feelings/emotions and keep coming up with material things, concepts or activities you desire, use these first ideas as clues to the root emotional drive. With the example above, If you write, “I want a new car,” ask yourself, “How would a new car make me feel?” You can also ask this question a second (or third) time to really render things down to the most specific feeling that you’re trying to manifest. The emotion wheel (link here or below) can be used as a tool to further identify what root emotions you’re wanting to tap into. There are also other (and more detailed) emotion wheels on the internet that can be found in a simple search.

Below are some Notes and helpful information regarding emotions:
“emotion (n.)
1570s, "a (social) moving, stirring, agitation," from French émotion (16c.), from Old French emouvoir"stir up" (12c.), from Latin emovere "move out, remove, agitate," from assimilated form of ex "out" (see ex-) + movere "to move" (from PIE root *meue- "to push away"). Sense of "strong feeling" is first recorded 1650s; extended to any feeling by 1808.”
From: https://www.etymonline.com/word/emotion

“What we think of as emotion is the experience of energy moving through the body. This is generally felt as sensations of contraction such as tension or expansion such as calm. The Latin derivative for the word emotion, ‘emotere’, literally means energy in motion.
In itself, emotional energy is neutral. It is the feeling sensation and physiological reaction that makes a specific emotion positive or negative. Feeling is what you label as anger, sadness, joy or fear. It is then your interpretations or thoughts about emotional energy that give it meaning. Emotion serves as the carrier waves for the entire spectrum of feelings. Understanding that emotions are energy implies that they are fluid, moving resources meant to be felt and released vs. suppressed and ignored.”

“These feelings and emotions are pure energy flow and information. They are not enemies or obstacles on your path, but are the very path itself. They have not come to harm you but only to be allowed back in to the majestic vastness that you are. They are none other than Life itself, taking a wrathful appearance, longing to get your attention and to remind you of something you’ve forgotten. And to reveal that it is only in their abandonment, not in their nature, that suffering can take root and flower here.”

Column 2: What activities/tasks/actions/goals can I put into motion to help bring about the feelings I want to feel/experience? The second column is where you’ll put your actions and activities. These can be simple tasks or big goals. If the feeling “Peaceful” is listed in the first column, an action item could be as simple as saying a Mantra - “I am peaceful” - to committing to a daily yoga practice or even ending a stressful relationship. Let what you write in the second column be inspired. Brainstorm and let ideas rise up. After completing your list, check your answers against the first column (What do I want to feel?) to make sure your action items line up with your emotional/energetic desires. This list might end up really long, and you might want to star or Number the really important or really do-able things. Go with what feels right.

Column 3: How can I share/give back/pay it forward? The third column is really fun. I find that tapping into not only gratitude, but the energy of giving to others, has a very expansive and loving energy about it. Again, brainstorm and make a list in the 3rd column. Double check your ideas with the first column, making sure they meet your desired emotions.

Once your three columns are complete, take a final lookover and make sure that everything in column 1 is an emotion or feeling, and that columns 2 & 3 satisfy at least one feeling in column one. Do your final edits, rewrite your lists (If you’re the type that needs things to be neat and orderly) or use your list in all its brainstormed, flow-state glory just as you created it.

And that’s it. You have just identified your true needs and desires, tapped into the essence of what your soul’s purpose is, and you’ve chosen actions to put into motion to bring about the emotions you want to feel and thus, the life you want to EXPERIENCE. Some people like to use their list as a roadmap for intention setting and manifesting. Others use it as a guide when it comes to making decisions in the future, as a reminder of what they want to feel - to qualify a new experience, relationship, or activity to make sure it’s aligned.

Thank you for traveling on this road with me - I love you! And I hope this activity helps you and those you share it with.
